Day Eight: A Picnic Adventure & Sunset at Mount Magazine

Dear Hubby offered to take Girl M & myself for a picnic at Spring Lake.  He saw the sign to Spring Lake about 4 miles from the campground.  We packed some hotdogs, chips & the dogs and took off.......................!

The little creeks had such a great view along the drive.

We're not to Spring Lake yet, but I would picnic here!

We've been driving on this (nicely) gravel road for about 8 miles and still no Spring Lake.   I'm starting to get a little worried and I think I hear banjos playing.....!

Dear Hubby flagged down a 4-wheeler rider and asked for directions!  A very nice gentleman said to go past the old school house & cemetery and Spring Lake was about another 16 miles!

More (nice) gravel road to the middle of nowhere!

We finally came across this sign about 16 miles on this (nicely) gravel road.  This is starting to get scary!

Then out of nowhere we see this!

OK I have to admit that the drive was worth it.  We were the only ones here for a while and the lake was beautiful.  Picnic area, swimming area, and some fishing.  The weather was great & we were all together.  A pretty good picnic idea Dear Hubby!

The view from our picnic table was perfect.

Girl M. caught the fishing fever!
A few people arrived after us and it felt a little better, not so scary!  Everyone swam to the dock area and would jump off of the rock tower.  Pretty cool.

How did I find another Dam?  Along one side of Spring Lake was this beautiful dam.  I like dams.  It must be because we don't have any in Florida.

A quick stop back by our favorite overlook at Mount Magazine on the way back to our camp and the view was breathtaking.  I could sit here all day!

Back at our campsite, Dear Hubby and I enjoyed our zero gravity lounge chairs.  The weather was perfect and the sky was clear.  The view from our chairs was heavenly!

We were glad the weather was nice because the park offered a Sunset on Mount Magazine event at the overlook.  It did not disappoint.  I've only seen two sunsets my life and this one trumped them all.  It was so peaceful.

Our Park Interpreter said you can see Oklahoma in the horizon.  Pretty cool!

We stayed after the sunset program for a stargazing one with the same Park Interpreter.  It did not disappoint either.  We really enjoyed their programs and may go to one last one in the morning before we have to leave.

The air conditioner in the camper has been behaving sometimes.  Sometimes it freezes us out, sometimes it won't even come on!

Until next time..........................
